Our education department is designed for people who seek to teach professionally. Because of our size and professor/student ratio, we're able to give you close supervision as you observe classrooms and complete internships and student teaching.


Anna Baynum

Teaching specialty: K-12 Literacy
Research interests: word study, professional development and literacy coaching
Community outreach: Local public and independent school divisions / Roanoke's Community Youth Program


Rebecca Cox

Rebecca Cox, associate professor of education; B.A. Earlham College; M.A., Ph.D., Indiana University (Secondary specialist)

Teaching specialty: secondary education, classroom management, questioning strategies Research interests: alternative methods to the scientific method, "the inquiry wheel", conceptions of scientific inquiry, the private side of science
Community outreach: The Science Museum of Western Virginia, The Transportation Museum in Roanoke, VA, Project Learning Tree, Project Wild, Project Wet certifications, Teachers for Tomorrow, volunteer at Stuart Elementary School in a 4th-grade literacy and science class
