Great Defensive Effort Not Enough

Lynchburg, VA - Hollins University Basketball at Lynchburg College, December 5, 2012

Box Score

The Hollins University basketball team went on the road in search of their first ODAC win of the season when they traveled to Lynchburg on Wednesday night.  It was the third ODAC game of the young season for Hollins, the second consecutive on the road.

Hollins struggled on the defensive end of the floor on Saturday against Randolph-Macon as the Yellow Jackets shot almost 50% for the game.  The wasn't the case as Lynchburg struggled all night to crack the Hollins defense.  However, Hollins faced an even stingier Hornet defense that held the visitors to just 15 first half points.  Trailing by 10 at the break Hollins looked to climb back into the game in the second half.  Hollins found the going a little easier in the second half, scoring 30 points, but it wasn't enough as Hollins fell 58-45.

Junior post player Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) recorded her first double-double of the season by scoring 11 points and grabbing a game high 11 rebounds.  Leading scorer Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) again led the way with 14 points, three assists, and three steals.  Mackenzie Miller (Spencerville, OH) came off the bench to add 11 points while Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) added four.

Lynchburg was led by Chaney Forbush and her game high 19 points.  Katie Reeves hit three of seven from long range en route to 11 points.  Forbush led the Hornets with eight rebounds while Shannon Allen and Caleigh Patterson each grabbed six.

Hollins will step out of conference looking for the second win of the season when they face Salisbury University on Saturday, December 15th.  The game with the Sea Gulls is scheduled to tip at 2:00pm and can be seen live on the web.
