Hollins Rally Falls Short

Westminster, MD - Hollins University Basketball vs McDaniel College at McDaniel Tournament November 18, 2011

Box Score

The Hollins University basketball team went on the road for a tournament at McDaniel College in western Maryland.  Hollins drew the host Green Terror in the first game of the two day event.  McDaniel got off to a quick start and ran the lead to 16-3 until Hollins found their footing and begin to get back into the game.  After a three pointer at the end of the half, Hollins had cut the lead to 29-21.  The second half saw Hollins make a steady comeback cutting the lead to two with 13 minutes left and then whittling the lead to one with just seven minutes to play.  Hollins would complete the comeback by tying the score at 47-47 with 1:24 left in the matchup, but the host drew away and held on at the end for a 54-50 tournament opening win.

Fresh off her 22 point outing on Tuesday night, Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) tallied 13 points, five rebounds and two assists.  Fellow junior guard Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) scored a team high 14 points to go with her seven rebounds and three steals.  Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) added six points and a game high 16 rebounds as Hollins enjoyed a 47-39 advantage on the boards.  Two of Chanci Wright's (Eden, TX/Eden) seven points tied the game late for Hollins.

10 points by Steph Perez helped lead a balanced McDaniel attack.  Rachael Rybak added nine while Meg Biggart scored seven.  It was Biggart's made jumper with less than a minute left in the game that gave the Green Terror the lead for good.

Hollins will await the loser of the second game of the tournament.  Hollins will play either Catholic or Richard Stockton tomorrow at 1:00pm.
