Hollins Can't Tame WildCats

Lynchburg, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Randolph College, February 4, 2014

Box Score

The Hollins University basketball team was on the road on Tuesday night.  After picking up their first ODAC win of the season, Hollins traveled to Randolph College looking to win back to back conference games for the first time this season.  For Hollins to win their second game in a row, they would have to defeat a WildCat team that won in Hollins, 73-90, back in late November.

From the opening tip, Hollins let their hosts know that they would be in for a fight all night long.  Hollins scored the first five points of the matchup, racing out to an early lead.  Randolph stopped the Hollins run and started to close the gap. After the score was tied, Hollins once again took the lead and started to pull away.  With the visitors leading by as many as seven points, the WildCats scratched and clawed their way back into the game.  The WildCats came all the way back and after seeing Hollins lead for the games first 17 minutes, gained their first advantage of the night.  Randolph pushed the lead to six but a late Hollins hoop made the score 35-31 at the break.

As the second half started, Randolph built on the momentum they had gained over the closing minutes of the first frame.  The WildCats saw their lead grow to double digits during the first five minutes of the second period.  Hollins continued to try to turn back the Randolph offense, but they couldn't stop the lead from growing.  Randolph built the lead to as many as 23 before Hollins started to close the gap.  After scoring nine of the next 11 points, Hollins cut the lead to 69-53, but could get no closer as the home standing WildCats came away with the conference win, 71-53.

For the fourth straight game, Jewell Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) led Hollins in scoring.  Parfitt scored 16 points while handing out a team high three assists.  Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD) came off the bench to add 15 points and four rebounds.  Taylor Catron (Tazewell, VA) scored five points and pulled down a game high 13 rebounds and Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) added four points and six rebounds.

Emilee Dunton led Randolph with 23 points and nine rebounds.  Chelsea Tyler didn't start but scored 12 points and a game high six assists.  Allie Druffel and Abigail Bullins each added 10 points.

Hollins will return home for their second to last home game of the season when they play host to Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon.
