Hollins Road Woes Continue

After falling just short of picking off one of the ODAC's best teams, Eastern Mennonite, on Tuesday night, the Hollins basketball team traveled across town to try to change their fortunes against Roanoke College.  The Maroons have won 16 straight coming into the match-up.  Hollins struggled early and the home team raced out to an early 11-0 lead.  Hollins found their legs and trailed by just 12 with six minutes left to play.  The Maroons however ceased control on the game and took a comfortable 33-15 lead into the break.  Hollins was able to win the second half but it wasn't enough to comeback against Roanoke.  The Maroons picked up the 66-51 ODAC win and set themselves up to make a run in the standings after knocking off Lynchburg and Hollins in consecutive games.

Hollins struggled all night from the field shooting just 26.6%.  Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) and Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) led Hollins with 10 points apiece.  The ODAC's leading scorer, Jasmine Green (Hampton, VA/Tabb) was harassed all night scoring eight points to go with her team-leading seven rebounds, one assist, and three steals.  Hollins was able to turn-over the home team 23 times but could not convert the to's into easy baskets.

The Maroons got 18 points and 11 rebounds from All ODAC selection Nicci Moats.  Laurel Hankins added 13 points and four rebounds while Tatum McKee scored seven.

Hollins will stay on the road when they travel to Emory & Henry College on Tuesday night.  The match-up with the Wasps is scheduled ti tip at 7:00pm.
