Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Bridgewater College, January 6, 2012 Friday night saw Bridgewater College come to Roanoke for a match-up of two teams tied with identical 3-2 ODAC marks. Hollins came into the game tied for fourth with the Eagles. The game was as close as advertised, featuring the top two scorers in the ODAC, with both teams playing an aggressive, pressing first half. The Eagles took the lead off the tip and never trailed in a first half that saw both teams make runs against one another. Bridgewater made a late push and took a nine point lead into the break. Hollins came out in the first five minutes of the second half and trimmed the lead to four. Hollins continued to dictate play and with nine minutes remaining the game was tied at 42-42. A three pointer saw the home team take the lead for the first time all night. Hollins held the lead over the next five minutes but Bridgewater fought back, regaining the lead with just four minutes left to play. The Eagles held a four point advantage as the game entered its final minute. Hollins scored four straight and the game was tied with 17 seconds on the clock. A missed Hollins free throw gave Bridgewater the ball with the game tied. Good Hollins defense made it hard for the Eagles to get into their set and with the clock running down, Jenny Logan was forced to launch a three pointer. Unfortunately for Hollins, the shot found the bottom of the net with just 1.4 seconds left. Hollins was unable to get off a tying attempt and fell to the Eagles 61-58. Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) came into the game ranked second in the ODAC in scoring behind Jessica Mullen of Bridgewater. Greene had a huge game with 26 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. In the second half, Jasmine became the 10th member of the Hollins 1,000 point club and has 1,015 just two and a half seasons into her career. Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) added 11 points and three assists while Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) grabbed a game high 12 rebounds. Logan led the Eagles with 13 points, six assists, and seven steals. Katelynn Hottinger came off the bench to add 13 points while Mullen scored 11 despite shooting four for 15 from the field. Hollins will go on the road in search of their first victory of the second semester when they travel to Lynchburg. Hollins will tip with the Hornets at 4:00pm. |
