Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Emory & Henry College, January 9, 2013

Box Score

After winning a thrilling overtime game against Hood College on Monday night, Hollins was looking for two in a row when Emory & Henry came to town for an ODAC matchup.  Hollins went looking for their first ODAC win of the season against the visiting Wasps.

Hollins got off to their best start in over a month by racing out to an early six point lead.  Hollins continued to build the lead and got their cushion to as many as seven before Emory & Henry cut into the lead.  Hollins never let the Wasps pass them in the first half and took a four point lead into the break.  The second half saw Hollins push the lead to double digits and after four minutes of play, Hollins enjoyed a 12 point advantage.  However the Wasps, on the back of four three pointers and 16 free throws in the second frame, cut the lead back to four at the midway point of the half.  Hollins was able to keep the lead until Emory & Henry came all the way back and tied the game with 4:42 left to play.  About a minute later the Wasps took their first lead since an early 4-2 advantage at 18:52 of the first half.  After trading baskets over the next two minutes Emory & Henry got a long range three point basket from a 19% three point shooter to take their largest lead of the game.  After a made free throw the E&H lead was four but a Hollins hoop cut the lead to two with 34 seconds to go.  Hollins stole the ball and attacked the rim forcing a Wasp foul.  After hitting a pair of free throws, Hollins found themselves again tied.  Hollins played good defense and forced a missed shot but the ball went off a Hollins hand and gave the ball back to Emory & Henry with 4.6 seconds left.  Hollins lost a Wasp player on the inbounds play and E&H took the lead with just 2.8 seconds left to play.  After a long full court pass was knocked out of bounds, Coach Phillips took his final timeout to set up a game tying play.  Hollins got the ball inbounds and found Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) wide open inside.  Wright banked the ball off the backboard and through the net as the buzzer sounded.  However, the officials waved off the basket and sprinted out of a stunned Hollins gym giving the visitors a thrilling 72-70 ODAC win.

Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) once again led Hollins with 22 points.  It was a special night for Greene who, late in the first half, scored her 1,481 point.  With a three point play, Greene became Hollins all time leading scorer breaking the record of Brandi Cochran '05.  Jasmine added eight rebounds and three assists.  Wright recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while fellow post player Ella Oakley (Queanbeyan, Australia) added 10 points.  Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) scored eight points to go with her team high six assists and five steals and Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD) came off the bench to score six points.

Michelle Williams came off the bench to score a team high 19 points, 12 in the second half, for the Wasps.  Karina Farr scored 13 points to go with her nine rebounds while Kristie Langley added 12.

Hollins will complete their four game home stand when they play host to Washington and Lee on Saturday.  The game with the Generals is scheduled to tip at 2:00pm.
