Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Guilford College, January 3, 2012 The Hollins University basketball team took the court to start the second part of their season after being off for 25 days. Guilford College, tied for first in the ODAC, was the opponent as Hollins tried to build on their upset of W&L in early December. The two teams traded the lead back and forth for the first part of the game. The Quakers took the lead by nine with just under nine minutes to play in the first half. Hollins went on a run and pulled to within 25-20 just a few seconds later. Guilford, behind 56.7% first half shooting, pulled away late in the half and took a 15 point lead into the break. Hollins came out and hit a couple of quick jumpers to cut the lead but the Quakers again went on a run and built the lead throughout the second half en route to a rather easy 88-64 victory. Leading scorer Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) struggled from the floor but hit seven of eight from the line to record 14 points. Greene added a team high seven rebounds and four assists. Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) added 13 points and five rebounds. Molly Tahmaseb (Greensboro, NC/Northern Guilford) scored eight as did first-year guard Racheal Crowder (Buena Vista, VA/Perry McClure). 19 Hollins offensive rebounds helped to lead the home team to a 40-39 advantage on the glass but poor, 27.9%, shooting haunted Hollins all night long. Guilford was led by senior guard Jazlyn Gibbs. Gibbs led the way with 22 points. Jaclyn Nucci and Gaby Oglesby each added 12 while Morgan King scored 10. Oglesby grabbed seven rebounds while King added six rebounds and six assists. Hollins will face a battle for fourth place in the ODAC on Friday when they host Bridgewater College. The Eagles come to Hollins with an identical 3-2 league mark. |
