Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Lynchburg College, February 4, 2012 Hollins hosted Lynchburg College in the first of a three game home stand on Saturday afternoon. Hollins defeated the Hornets back in January and were looking for the season sweep on their home court. Hollins came out a bit flat and the visitors jumped out to a 6-0 lead right out of the gate. Hollins responded and cut the lead to 8-5 but then nothing could go right for the home team. Lynchburg went on an 20-1 run to seize control of the contest and led 28-6 at the 8:01 mark of the first half. Hollins again mounted a comeback and cut the lead to 12 with just seconds remaining before the half. Hollins had the ball with the shot clock off but took a long jumper instead of playing for the last shot. With 15 seconds left, the Hornets were able to run the clock down and take a three pointer. The shot was off the mark but a Lynchburg player grabbed the rebound and banked home a buzzer beating layup to take a 14 point lead into the halftime break. Hollins cut the lead to 11 during the second half but could get no closer and Lynchburg came away with a big 69-53 ODAC win. Hollins now enjoys only a one game lead over the Hornets in the ODAC standings. Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) scored a game high 23 points. Greene also grabbed nine rebounds and handed out four assists. Chanci Wright (Eden, TX/Eden) added seven points and five rebounds while Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) grabbed six rebounds to go with her six points. Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) and Molly Tahmaseb (Greensboro, NC/Northern Guilford) each added five points. Roslyn Alexander came off the bench to record a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Leading scorer Shannon Allan added 16 while Carly Greenlief and Shea Kelley each scored 11. Hollins will step out of conference on Tuesday night when they play host to Meredith College. The game with the Angels will tip at 7:00pm and is going to be a "Pink Zone" event.
