Season Sweep of WildCats

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Randolph College, February 11, 2013

Box Score

After picking up a road win on Saturday at Washington and Lee, the Hollins basketball team was back home on Monday night when they welcomed Randolph College to town.  Due to the unbalanced league schedule, the game with the WildCats didn't count as an ODAC game even though it was a battle of conference foes.  Hollins had defeated Randolph, by just four points, back in January when the two teams faced off in Lynchburg.

The game started with Hollins winning the opening tip and scoring first.  Randolph answered quickly in proved to be a tightly contested first half.  The two teams each led four different times in a half that saw Hollins lead by as many as five and the WildCats as many as three points.  In addition to the eight lead changes there were eight different instances in which the game was tied with the final tie coming at the halftime buzzer, 32-32.  The second half was a story of runs with Randolph coming out and scoring the first six points after the break.  Hollins answered with a 10 point run of their own before Randolph responded with five unanswered points.  The two teams again traded baskets and with 7:30 left to go the game was tied at 50-50.  It marked the 12th tie of the evening but it would be the last as Hollins scored nine straight points in the next three minutes of play.  Hollins was able to keep the WildCats at arms distance the rest of the way and went on to a 66-54 victory.

Hollins dominated the glass, enjoying a 56-35 advantage on the boards.  Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA) grabbed a game high 15 rebounds while scoring 14 points en route to the double-double.  Forrest also handed out a game high six assists to go with a pair of steals.  Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA) added 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) got the start in the post and made the most of it by scoring eight points and blocking four Randolph shots.  Carrie Cox (Lynch Station, VA) came off the bench to hit a pair of three pointers on her way to eight points and three rebounds.  Chanci Wright (Eden, TX) recorded six points and seven rebounds while Alexa Smith (Barboursville, VA) added six points and five rebounds.

Chelsea Tyler led Randolph with 10 points.  Leading scorer Emily Dunton led all scorers with seven first half points but was held scoreless the rest of the way.

Hollins will look to win three games in a row for the first time this season as they host Roanoke College on Wednesday night.  The match up with their cross-town rivals will be the final regular season home game for Hollins.  Hollins/Roanoke will tip at 7:00pm.
