Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Basketball vs Virginia Wesleyan College, February 17, 2012 The final weekend of regular season ODAC play saw the top ranked Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan come to town. Wesleyan rides atop the ODAC standings while Hollins finds themselves in a deadlock with Roanoke for the eighth and final spot in next week's ODAC Tournament. Hollins, as has been the case in the last five games, got off to a very slow start. The Marlins raced out to a 12-0 lead to start the contest. Hollins finally scored at the 13:30 mark of the first half. Hollins righted themselves and cut the lead to six before the Marlins again went on a run and took a commanding, 17 point lead into the break. Hollins did exactly what they needed to do and started the second frame on a 7-0 run to cut the visitors lead to 10. With 8:30 left in the game, Hollins had chipped the lead down to seven. However Virginia Wesleyan again built the lead to double digits going into the final minutes of play. Hollins played great defense down the stretch but could not get any closer than seven points as they missed four consecutive three pointers in the final minute of play. Hollins fell to the Marlins 58-49 in a game that saw both teams shoot less than 33% from the field. Chanci Wright (Eden, TX/Eden) recorded the first double-double of her young Hollins career. In front of her parents, that had flown in from Texas, Wright scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Jasmine Greene (Hampton, VA/Tabb) added 14 points and six assists while Lauren Morris (Morehead, NC/Croatan) scored seven. Lacie Forrest (Richmond, VA/Meadowbrook) struggled from the field, only four points on two of 12 shooting, but added six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Despite scoring just two points in the first half, first-year guard Sarah Seipp netted a game high 16 points. Kristen Blaylock added 12 points and seven rebounds while Rachael Miller and Symonne Newsome each scored eight. Katie Tassa corralled a game high 11 rebounds. Hollins will be fighting for their tournament lives as the host Randolph-Macon College tomorrow at 4:00 pm. In a game that is a virtual first round tournament game, Hollins needs to record a win in order to have a chance to qualify for the ODAC Tournament.
