The Hollins golf team opened their spring schedule when they hosted Cortland State on a clear Saturday afternoon.  The one day, 18 hole dual match was played at Ashley Plantation in Daleville, VA.  In the most recent Golf World/NGCA coaches poll Hollins was ranked 35th and Cortland 40th.  Cortland had bested Hollins at the Martin Wallace Invitational this past fall and Hollins was looking to exact a bit of revenge on their home course.  However Cortland won the event 344-352 and took individual medalist honors with a low round of 75.

Coty Hudson (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) finished runner up as she paced Hollins with an 80.  Second year golfer Elizabeth Cheng (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) carded an 85, good enough for third out of the 11 competing golfers.  Seniors JR Woolwine (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) and Kate Teiken (Sugarloaf, PA/Hershey) as well as Gabby Radar (San Antonio, TX/Alamo Heights) also competed for Hollins.

Hollins will step it up next weekend when they travel to Jekyll Island, GA.  The Jekyll Island Collegiate will consist of a 26 team field that includes 11 of the top 25 golf teams in the country.
