The Hollins University golf team traveled to Georgia to compete for the first time this season. Hollins was one of nine teams playing at the Par 72, 5,800 yard, Orchard Golf and Country Club in Clarksville, GA. After the first round, Hollins found themselves sitting in seventh. Hollins improved 18 stroke on day two to finish sixth in a field that included some of the best College teams in the south. Elizabeth Cheng (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) fired a two round total of 156, four shots of medalist honors, to finish in a tie for third during the two day event. Coty Hudson (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass), playing in her first collegiate tournament, picked up a top five finish by shooting a total of 159. Cheng and Hudson gave Hollins two top five golfers in the 56 player field. J.R. Woolwine (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) and Autum Russell (Chantilly, VA/Westfield) also competed for Hollins and both finished in the top 40. Hollins will be back in action when they host Radford University on September 25. The dual match will be played on Hollins home course, Ashley Plantation in Daleville, VA.
