Hollins Falls in Finale

Bridgewater, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse at Bridgewater College, April 23, 2012

Box Score

Monday marked the season finale for the Hollins lacrosse team.  It was the second trip to Bridgewater as the original game was postponed due to lightning.  The weather wasn't much better as Hollins faced the Eagles on a cold, wet afternoon.  The home team wasted no time scoring three goals in the first five minutes of play.  Bridgewater continued to pressure their visitors in the offensive zone and found themselves with an 11-0 lead at the break.  Hollins scored first in the second stanza but couldn't cut the lead any further as Bridgewater went on to an 18-1 ODAC victory.

Amanda Duffie-Fritz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) scored on an assist from Jessie McAfoos (Thompsonville, IL/Thompsonville) to get Hollins on the board early in the second half.  McAfoos added four draw controls and a caused turnover while senior Erika LaWall (Cary, NC/Apex) led Hollins with three ground balls.  Fellow senior Jacqui Sommerman (Dallas, TX/Highland Park) recorded six saves in her first game in goal this season, Sommerman was the primary goalkeeper for Hollins a season ago.

Paige Henessy and Katie Freeman led Bridgewater with three goals each.  Megan Bach added two goals and two assists while Peggy Russell came off the bench to score twice.  Laura Reynolds went the distance in goal, recording six saves.

Hollins wraps up the season with a 1-14 mark and will lose just two seniors as a young core of players will return next spring.
