Bump in the Road for Hollins

Greensboro, NC - Hollins University Lacrosse at Guilford College, April 4, 2012

Box Score

The Hollins lacrosse team was back in action Wednesday afternoon with a trip to Guilford College.  It marked the first of a three game road trip for the young Hollins squad.  So far this season the road has been unkind as Hollins went to North Carolina looking for their first ODAC road win of the season.  Their hosts didn't roll out the welcome mat and jumped on the visitors quickly, scoring one minute into the game.  The Quakers kept the pressure on and at halftime Hollins was looking up at a double digit deficit.  Hollins tightened up the defense in the second half but couldn't generate any offense and fell to Guilford 12-0.

Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD/Northwood) picked up two more saves going the distance in net.  Chanci Wright (Eden, TX/Eden), playing in just her first season on a lacrosse field, again played some solid defense.  The 6'0" sophomore caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls.  Nicholson added four ground balls while Jessie McAfoos (Thompsonville, IL/Thompsonville) and Melissa Hubbard (Linden, VA/Chantilly) led the way with two draw controls each.

Guilford spread out the scoring as 10 different Quakers found the back of the net.  Summer Frazier and Becca Colley each scored twice while E'leyna Garcia led the team with two assists.  Liza Mettler went the distance in goal recording the shutout.

Hollins will take to the road again this weekend.  After a trip to Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, Hollins will face Randolph-Macon on Saturday.
