Hollins Offense Comes to Life |
Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse vs Sweet Briar College, April 18, 2012 |
|
A cold, rainy Wednesday afternoon was the scene for the last home game for Hollins this season. ODAC rival Sweet Briar was the opponent as three Hollins seniors were honored prior to the opening draw. Erika LaWall (Cary, NC/Apex), Jacqui Sommerman (Dallas, TX/Highland Park), and student-assistant Elizabeth Dodd (Eastville, VA) were in action at home for the final time. Neither team could get anything going early until the Vixens scored three minutes into the contest. After three more Sweet Briar goals, Hollins responded to cut the visitor's lead to three. Hollins showed life on the offensive end of the field, attempting 10 first half shots, but couldn't beat the Vixen keeper and trailed at the break. Hollins again went on the offensive but time after time the keepers for Sweet Briar were up to the task and despite 22 Hollins shots, the home team fell 15-2. LaWall scored her team leading 18th goal of the season. Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA/Northlake Christian) added a goal and five ground balls. Chanci Wright (Eden, TX/Eden) caused six more turnovers and scooped up seven ground balls. Her 42 caused turnovers currently lead the ODAC, while her 48 ground balls have her in the top three. Corrine Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD/Northwood) again went the distance in net, recording five saves. Sweet Briar was led by Sam Schwartz and her six goals. Olivia Hurt added five goals while Kimberly Orchowski added a goal and five assists. Megan Link and Caroline Baker split time in goal and combined to stop 13 Hollins shots. Hollins will travel to Bridgewater on Monday to complete their season. The make-up game with the Eagles is scheduled to start at 4:00pm |
