Hollins Can't Get Going |
Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Lacrosse vs Wheeling Jesuit University, March 9, 2012 |
|
The Hollins lacrosse team played for the second time in less than 24 hours when they hosted Wheeling Jesuit University in an out of conference match-up. Hollins was looking for a fast start over the visiting Cardinals. After winning the opening draw, things looked promising for the home team. Wheeling Jesuit was able to keep Hollins from scoring and then took the ball from end to end and found the back of the net to take a quick 1-0 lead. Hollins held their visitors scoreless for the next 10 minutes but could not get going on the offensive end. After two Cardinal goals the score was just 3-0 going into the final third of the first half. Hollins had four shots turned away as Wheeling Jesuit took a 6-0 lead into the break. The second half was much of the same as the Hollins offense was held at bay all afternoon long. As the horn sounded, the Cardinals had come away with a 12-0 win. Chanci Wright (Eden, TX/Eden) led a Hollins defense that turned over Wheeling Jesuit 23 times. Wright caused six turnovers and picked up six ground balls. Melissa Hubbard (Linden, VA/Chantilly) secured three draw controls and got off three shots on the offensive end. Corinne Nicholson (Takoma Park, MD/Northwood) was again solid in goal, recording 13 saves and bringing her season total to 44. Wheeling Jesuit got three goals apiece from Erin Cannon and Haley Rush. Steph Katona added two goals while four different Cardinals added a goal. Sara Buckley recorded six saves en route to the shut-out. Hollins will play their third game in as many days when they travel to Washington DC to play Trinity. The game tomorrow is scheduled to start at 1:00pm. |
