Eagles Halt Hollins Momentum

Bridgewater, VA - Hollins University Soccer at Bridgewater College, October 2, 2012

Box Score

The Hollins soccer team traveled to the Shenandoah Valley for the second time in the past four days when they headed north to face Bridgewater College on Tuesday afternoon.  After picking up a big win at Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, Hollins went looking for two ODAC wins in a row as the faced the Eagles.

Bridgewater struck early and often against a Hollins squad that was held in check all afternoon.  Four first half goals afforded the Eagles a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break.  After scoring nine goals against the Royals, the Hollins offense struggled to find any kind of rhythm against Bridgewater as the home team never allowed their guests to get going.  The second half was again controlled by Bridgewater as the Eagles went on to a 6-0 ODAC victory.

Hollins was unable to get a shot on goal while their hosts put 18 shots on the Hollins net.  Keeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA), who currently leads the ODAC in saves, tried to keep Hollins in the match by recording 12 stops.

Krissy Snyder got Bridgewater going when she scored 10 minutes into the game.  Melanie Waters added two goals while Mari Marotta, Abby Dehoff, and Erin Holden also got into the scoring column.  Nikole Blackwell and Rachel Woods each added a pair of assists and Snyder added an assist of her own.

Hollins will look to defend home turf on Friday as they host cross-town rival Roanoke College at 4:00pm.
