Hollins Can't Catch Panthers

Ferrum, VA - Hollins University Soccer at Ferrum College September 9, 2011

Box Score

Hollins was back on the road after having their home opener postponed due to weather earlier in the week.  After having goals scored in the first four minutes of both their previous matches, Hollins again saw the ball in the net early when Ferrum scored less than four minutes in.  After falling behind by two, Hollins was able to break through and cut the lead to one late in the first half.  Ferrum answered back before the end of the half and after scoring quickly to start the second half the game was out of reach for Hollins and they fell to the Panthers 5-1.

Dani Franklin (Chesapeake Beach, MD/Northern) scored on a breakaway late in the first half.  Franklin took a pass from Kelly Hunt (Broadlands/Briar Woods) and beat the Ferrum keeper.  Hollins did get five shots from first year Kelli Kitchens (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) in addition to Franklin's three.  First year keeper Samantha Tooley (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) got her first start in goal and recorded a game high five saves.

LaQuinta Garrett led the Panthers with two goals and two assists.  Brittany Baker, Kara Pegram, and Amber Lynch added a goal apiece.  Keeper Caitlyn Deaton recorded four saves in picking up the win.

Hollins will try once again to play at home when they host Piedmont College on Sunday.  The match is scheduled to start at 2:00pm.
