Road Split to Start Season |
Greensboro, NC - Hollins University Soccer vs Greensboro College September 4, 2011 One day after a dominating offensive performance against Peace College, Hollins continued their opening weekend road trip by facing Greensboro College. The Pride got off to the hot start that Hollins had enjoyed a day earlier by scoring in the first four minutes of the match. Greensboro kept the pressure on by adding two more first half goals en route to a 3-0 halftime lead. Hollins settled down in the second half by keeping the home team scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the second frame. However Greensboro found the net three more times late in the match and went on to a 6-0 non-conference win. After getting off 33 shots against the Pacers, the Hollins offense was held to just eight attempts on Sunday. Ashley Cassidy (Roanoke, VA/Staunton River) and Dani Franklin (Chesapeake, MD/Northern) tallied two scoring chances apiece. Kristen Norkus (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) and first year keeper Amanda Duffie-Fritz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) combined to stop eight of the 14 Pride shots that were on target. Sara Lang went for the hat trick by scoring three straight goals. Beth Ward added a pair of goals and an assist while Shireen Unvala recorded six saves earning the shut-out. Hollins opens their home schedule when they host Bluefield College on Tuesday afternoon. The match at Moody Field is scheduled to start at 4:00pm and can by watched LIVE via stream from First Team Broadcasting. |
