Quakers Best Hollins

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Guilford College, September 19, 2012

Box Score

The Hollins soccer team was back on home turf this afternoon when they played host to Guilford College.  Hollins came into the match with the Quakers looking for their first ODAC win of the season.  Today marked the first of three straight home ODAC matches on the Hollins schedule.

The match started slowly with neither team really getting a good scoring chance for the first 10 minutes.  Hollins was looking to get an early lead but it was the Quakers that struck first to take the advantage.  About six minutes later Guilford added to their lead and seized control of the match.  Hollins wouldn't go quietly as senior Alicia Johns (Locust Grove, VA) took a throw in from Dani Franklin (Chesapeake Beach, MD) and beat the Quaker keeper to get the home team on the board.  With Hollins back in the match, both teams traded opportunities until the final 10 minutes of the half until Guilford scored a pair of goals to make it 4-1 at the break.  The second half saw both defenses stand up and make it hard for either offense to score.  However, with the visitors out shooting Hollins 37-5, the Hollins defense finally gave way to a fifth Guilford goal as the Quakers took the ODAC match up 5-1.  Keeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) recorded 15 saves for Hollins.

Guilford's Kelli Uresti scored a goal and added three assists while Hannah Schlitz scored twice.  Sarah Levitt scored a goal and Kelly Mulka scored a goal and assisted on another.

Hollins will be back in action this Saturday when they host Randolph-Macon at 2:00pm.
