Hollins No Match for Hornets

Tuesday afternoon marked the final match of the 2012 season for the Hollins soccer team.  New ODAC member Shenandoah University was the opponent for the Hollins finale.  Hollins came in tot he matchup with the Hornets looking for their third league win of the season.

Hollins fell behind early as their visitors from Winchester scored less than two minutes into the game.  Both teams traded scoring chances over the next 20 but when the Hornets scored three goals in a five minute stretch the match appeared all but over.  Hollins trailed 4-0 at the break and couldn't get anything going despite four scoring chances against Shenandoah.  The second half wasn't much better as the visitors added three more goals for the final tally of 7-0.

Hollins had their best opportunity to get on the board in the second half when Maran O'Neill (Bedford, VA) got loose behind the Hornet defense and took a point blank shot on the keeper.  After a great save by Nichole Pratt, O'Neill got a second chance on the rebound but was once again stoned by Pratt.  Keeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA) recorded 14 saves and ended the season with an ODAC best 154 saves.

Stormie Malik scored the first two goals for Shenandoah.  Danielle Burris added two goals and two assists.  Harmon Hall, Brittany Butcher, and Kelli Kitchens also scored for the Hornets.  Pratt went the distance in goal recorded four saves en route to the shut-out.

Hollins will finish the season with a 4-13 mark, 2-10 in ODAC play.  Hollins had several good chances this season for their third conference win, which would have been a school record.
