William Peace Can't Keep Pace

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer at William Peace University, September 13, 2012

Box Score

After falling in their ODAC opener at W&L yesterday, Hollins played host to William Peace University on Thursday afternoon.  It was only the second home game of the season for a Hollins team that was looking to halt a two game losing streak.

Hollins showed no ill effects from their visit to Lexington yesterday by jumping on their visitors early.  Becca Logan (Culloden, WV) scored less than 10 minutes into the match on a pass by Maran O'Neill (Bedford, VA).  Seven minutes later Logan struck again this time she found teammate Morgan Wood (Rocky Mount, VA) in front of the Pacer net and Wood put it home to give Hollins a 2-0 lead.  As the halftime break approached Hollins continued to keep the pressure on William Peace and with less than five minutes to go, Hollins scored again.  Lisa McGrady (Hendersonville, NC/Hendersonville) beat the Pacer keeper when she took a pass from Sara Poole (Blue Ridge, VA).  Hollins held their 3-0 lead until the 15 minute mark when they scored again to push the lead to four.  Cassie Pickens (Eagle Rock, VA) came off the bench to score the fourth Hollins goal when McGrady drew the keeper and made a perfect pass for Pickens to score her first collegiate goal.  The Hollins defense made the shut-out hold up as keeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, LA), 12 saves, made a couple of highlight reel saves earning her second win of the season.  Hollins out-shot their opponent 25-17 for the match.

William Peace's Melissa Moran took a team high eight shots.  Keeper Sydney Melchert gave up all four Hollins goals but recorded 13 saves on the afternoon.

Hollins will step back into conference play this weekend as they travel to Virginia Wesleyan.  The ODAC match with the Marlins is scheduled to kick off at 1:00pm.
