90 Minutes Not Enough for Hollins/E&H

Emory, VA - Hollins University Soccer at Emory & Henry College, October 29, 2013

Box Score

For the final time this fall, the Hollins soccer team went on the road for a conference matchup.  Tuesday night saw Hollins travel to face Emory & Henry College for their 2013 ODAC finale.

The match started with the home team gaining the upper hand early.  Emory & Henry got off several shots on the Hollins net but each time the Wasps were turned back by the Hollins defense.  Becca Logan (Culloden, WV) had Hollins first scoring chance of the game but the Emory & Henry keeper made the save to keep the match scoreless.  Each team enjoyed multiple scoring chances but no one could find the back of the net and the score was tied, 0-0, at the half.

Coming out of the break, the Wasps kept Hollins on their heels by spending a majority of the time in the visitors zone.  Emory & Henry enjoyed a 15-2 advantage in shots during the second frame but Hollins would not allow the home team to score and as the buzzer sounded the score remained 0-0.

Megan McKee with the save

For the first time this season the Hollins soccer team needed overtime to find a winner.  After being out-shot 29-6 during regulation, a weary Hollins defense was going to have to dig deep in order for the visitors to have a chance.  The Wasps again dominated possession of the ball but the Hollins defense was up to the task and after a pair of 10 minute overtime periods the game ended in a draw, 0-0.

Logan led the Hollins offense with four shots.  It was the Hollins defense that was the star of the evening.  Facing 38 Emory & Henry shots without allowing a single goal.  Keeper Megan McKee (Madison, AL) recorded 18 saves to anchor a Hollins defense that was under siege all night long.

Hollins will wrap up regular season play when they play host to Bluefield College on Halloween afternoon at 4:00pm
