Hollins Closes Out Regular Season

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Bluefield College, October 31, 2013

Box Score

On a cool and overcast Thursday afternoon, the Hollins soccer team took to the field for the last time this season.  Bluefield College came to Roanoke to makeup a game from an earlier postponed contest and Hollins hoped to treat the Rams to a loss on Halloween.

The start to the game was an uneventful one as neither team could get anything going on the offensive end of the field.  With just under 15 minutes left to go before the break, Bluefield drew first blood by sending a long shot over the head of the Hollins keeper.  After outshooting Hollins in the first half, 12-1, the Rams took a 1-0 lead into the break.  10 minutes into the second, Bluefield again scored a goal from way out to push the lead to 2-0.  Hollins picked up the pace on offense when defender Melissa Hubbard (Linden, VA) made a great run from the back line and sent a shot towards the Rams net.  However, the Bluefield keeper was up to the challenge and made the best of her four saves on the afternoon.  Hollins couldn't beat the Rams defense and after a late Bluefield goal, the final horn sounded with the home team on the short end of a 3-0 score.

Hubbard and Ashton Holliday (Lewisburg, WV) led the Hollins offense by accounting for more than half of the team's shots.  Autumn Johnson (Rocky Mount, VA) got her third start in goal and recorded six saves.

Pip Pattison got the Rams on the board by scoring the game's first goal.  Victoria Doyle and Nina Cundiff added goals while Lyndsey Pelletteri picked up an assist.  Kayla Richardson went the distance in goal, saving all four Hollins shots that were on target.

Hollins finished the season with three conference wins, equaling the total posted by the 1984 team.
