Home ODAC Finale Goes to the Eagles

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Bridgewater College, October 23, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins soccer team played their final ODAC home game of the season when they hosted Bridgewater College on a cold and wet Wednesday afternoon.  With three ODAC games remaining on the schedule, Hollins needed to take advantage of their home field if they wanted to move up the conference standings.

The game started with the visitors spending time in the Hollins zone for a majority of the first 10 minutes.  In a two minute span, the Eagles scored a pair of goals on long range shots that beat the Hollins keeper.  Hollins then had their best scoring opportunity of the game but the shot sailed just wide of the Eagles net.  Bridgewater then scored their third goal in the game's opening 20 minutes.  As the halftime buzzer sounded it was the Eagles with an 18-5 lead in shots and a 3-0 lead on the scoreboard.

Hollins picked up their defensive intensity in the second half and kept Bridgewater off the board.  However, the Hollins offense just couldn't get on track as they fell, 3-0, to the Eagles.

Ashton Holliday sends a shot towards the opponents goal

Ashton Holliday (Lewisburg, WV) led Hollins with three shots, including Hollins best scoring chance of the afternoon, a shot that sailed just wide of the Bridgewater goal.  Autumn Johnson (Rocky Mount, VA), making her first collegiate start in net, stopped 13 Eagle shots.

Michelle Viegas scored the game's first goal on a long range shot less than 10 minutes into the game.  Anna Theison and Nikole Blackwell each added unassisted goals for the Eagles.  Taylor Riley picked up the win in net, stopping three Hollins shots.

Hollins will have a pair of ODAC road games before coming back home on Halloween for their regular season finale.  Hollins will start their two game road trip when they travel across town to face Roanoke College on Friday night.
