Big ODAC Win for Hollins

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Soccer vs Randolph College, October 12, 2013

Box Score

The Hollins soccer team, fresh off a big ODAC win over Sweet Briar, was back in action when they played host to Randolph College on Saturday afternoon.  Hollins came into the matchup with the WildCats looking for the third conference win of the season.

Hollins started off the match by keeping the play in the Randolph end of the field.  The WildCats got the first good scoring chance of the game but the shot sailed over the Hollins keeper and off the top post.  Hollins quickly seized control of the game when first year Ashton Holliday (Lewisburg, WV) feathered a pass through the Randolph defense to Becca Logan (Culloden,, WV) who beat the WildCat keeper to give Hollins the lead.  The home team added to their lead about 15 minutes later when senior Morgan Wood (Rocky Mount, VA) sent a long pass down the middle of the field and Logan again found the back of the net giving Hollins a 2-0 lead that they carried into the break.

The second half was a tightly contested affair.  Despite out-shooting Hollins, 14-10, during the second frame, the WildCats couldn't solve the Hollins defensive riddle.  Led by senior defenders, Sarah Knox (Bedford, VA) and Melissa Hubbard (Linden, VA), the Hollins defense proved to be the difference as the home team went on to a 2-0, shutout, victory.  Keeper Megan McKee (Madison, AL) recorded nine saves en route to the first shutout of her young collegiate career.

For the second game in a row, Logan netted a pair of goals giving her four for the week and nine for the season.  Logan now sits in a tie for second in the ODAC is goals scored while McKee sits in second in the league with 98 saves.  With their third league win, Hollins has eqauled the three ODAC wins that they had in 1984.

Going for their third win in a row, Hollins will face a tough test when ODAC power Lynchburg College comes to town on Tuesday.  The game with the Hornets is scheduled to start at 4:00pm.
