First Dual Meet Goes to the Wasps

Emory, VA - Hollins University Swimming at Emory & Henry College, November 1, 2013


For the first time this season, the Hollins swim team competed in a dual meet.  Hollins traveled to face, ODAC Preseason #2, Emory & Henry on Friday afternoon.  It wasn't the first time that Hollins had competed against the Wasps but it was the first time the two schools had met head to head.

Hollins got off to a solid start by placing third in the 400 Medley Relay.  The team of Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN), Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA), Maggie Dwyer (Norwich, VT), and Audrey James (Fremont, CA) got Hollins on the scoreboard by bring home third place points. 

Lauren Chin (Montego Bay, Jamaica) earned third place points in the 200 Freestyle and then came back later in the meet to finish fourth in the 400 Freestyle.  Carmen Herrmann (Leonburg, Germany) added a pair of fourths in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Freestyle.

Dwyer finished third in the 50 Butterfly and in doing so broke the Hollins varsity record for that event and distance.  In the meets final event, Dwyer, O'Brien, Caulfeild-James, and James recorded Hollins best finish of the meet when they placed runner-up in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Hollins will be back in the pool tomorrow afternoon.  In their first home meet of the season, Hollins will host Greensboro and Gallaudet in a tri-meet at 1:00pm.
