Hollins Splits A Pair In Tri-Meet

Results

For the second time in a week, the Hollins swim team was in the pool on back to back days.  Having hosted Ferrum College last night, Hollins traveled to Hampden Sydney to face Guilford College and Frostburg State in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon.

Hollins posted eight top three finishes in the 11 event meet that saw Hollins split with their two opponents.  Despite falling to Frostburg, 51-145, Hollins was able to best Guilford in 10 of the 11 events en route to a 119-53 victory over their ODAC rival.

The Hollins team of Amanda Young (Henrico, VA), Grace Iaquinto (Huntington, WV), Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA), and Michelle Douglas (Chesapeake, VA) come home second in the opening event of the meet, the 200 Medley Relay.  Iaquinto came back later in the meet to add a third place finish in the 100 Freestyle.  Caulfeild-James continued her stellar first-year season by finishing runner up in both the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly.

Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) added points in three different races.  O'Brien scored third place points in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke while finishing fourth in the 200 Individual Medley.  Sam Vats (Herndon, VA) scored a pair of third place finishes in the 800 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle, the meets two longest events.

Hollins enters the last week of the regular season with three meets over a six day period.  Hollins will begin their final week of competition against their biggest rival, Sweet Briar College.  The meet with the Vixens will be held at Hollins on Monday night at 6:00pm.
