Results

The 2011-12 Hollins University tennis team took to the court for the first time this fall when they traveled to compete in the Methodist University Fall Invitational over the weekend.  The tournament consisted of six Singles and three Doubles draws.  Hollins went 17-15 for the tournament, winning one and finishing second in another Singles draw while picking up a second and two third place Doubles finishes.

Priscila Montoya (Delicias, Mexico) made it to the finals of the #2 Singles where she had to face first year teammate Victoria Coffee (Plano, TX).  Montoya won a hard fought three set battle 6-3, 5-7, and 10-6.  Priscila teamed with sister Karen Montoya (Delicias, Mexico) to finish third in the #1 Doubles draw.  In #3 Singles, Shawnte Woodson (Waynesboro, VA) lost her first match but fought her way back to win the Consolation Final.  Coffee and partner Sarah Grace McCormick (Harrisonburg, VA) won the third place, #2 Doubles match while Woodson and Tina Kakadelis (Towson, MD) won the #2 Doubles Consolation Final.  Trudy Siziba (Harara, Zimbabwe) won the Consolation bracket at #5 Singles and finished second at #3 Doubles with partner Caitlin Hoerr (Virginia Beach, VA).

Hollins will look to build on their momentum when they travel to Mary Washington University to compete in the Fall ITA Regional Tournament next weekend.
