Rematch Goes to the Wasps

For the second time in the past 24 hours, the Hollins volleyball team was on the road.  After traveling to Southern Virginia last night, Hollins headed south on Interstate 81 to face Emory & Henry College.  It marked the second time that Hollins has faced the Wasps this season, with E&H taking the earlier matchup in three sets.

Hollins showed a little weariness in the first as the home standing Wasps cruised to a 25-14 opening set win.  The second set was a close one throughout but despite being tied late, Emory & Henry finished with a flourish at took a two sets to none lead.  The home team took control early in the third and finished off Hollins 25-14 to take the match 3-0.

Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) recorded a team high six kills and four digs.  Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) added five kills while Jordan Persinger (New Castle, VA) added a pair of kills on her three attacks.  Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) amassed 15 assists, three digs, and a pair of blocks.  Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA) led with 13 digs while Emily Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) added seven.

Nicole Tesh led Emory & Henry with 11 kills, Tristen Pennington and Hannah Doss added nine kills each.  Maleah Neely handed out 33 assists and Emily Hinshaw led with eight digs.

Hollins will be back at home on Saturday when they host ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan at 2:30pm.
