Baltimore, MD - Hollins University Volleyball vs Lebanon Valley and Washington College at the Goucher Invitational, September 28, 2013

Box score vs Lebanon Valley

Box score vs Washington College

The Hollins volleyball team entered the final day of the Goucher Invitational trying to build on their 1-1 record.  Hollins faced Lebanon Valley before playing in their finale against Washington College as the two day event came to a close.

In their first match of the day, Hollins faced off with a Lebanon Valley squad that came into the contest with a 15-3 overall record.  The Dutchmen wasted little time in seizing control of the set.  Lebanon Valley took both the first and second sets by identical 25-11 scores.  Hollins showed improvement in the third set but still the outcome was the same as the Dutchmen took the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-0.

Hollins had a date with Washington College in the tournament finale.  A weary and short handed Hollins squad faced an "uphill battle" against Shorewomen team that entered the match with a 10-5 record.  Washington College jumped on Hollins early en route to an opening set win, 25-14.  The Shorewomen kept the pressure on and by virtue of a 41-23 advantage in kills, took each of the next two sets to come away with a 3-0 win.

Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) once again was the Hollins kill leader with six to go with her six digs and a service ace.  Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA) added five kills and a team high 11 digs while Kayla Pommier (Madrid, IA) recorded four.  Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) handed out 15 assists and eight digs.

Hollins will step back into ODAC competition when they travel to face Guilford College on Tuesday night.  They will travel to Greensboro looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Quakers.
