Hollins Sweeps Bluefield State for Home Win

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Volleyball vs Bluefield State College, October 3, 2013

Box score

The Hollins University volleyball team returned home after a five match road trip by hosting non-conference foe, Bluefield State College on Thursday night.  Hollins came into the matchup with the Blues looking to get back in the win column after an ODAC loss to Guilford earlier in the week.

Hollins came into the match looking to use their home court advantage to get off to a quick start.  Thanks to an 8-2 kill advantage, Hollins did just that by pulling out to a quick lead en route to an opening set win, 25-12.  With momentum on their side, Hollins again used a huge advantage of points at the net to take the second set, 25-11, and have the match firmly in control.  In the third set, the home team served their way to victory.  Leading 1-0, Jordan Persinger (New Castle, VA) won seven service points in a row while building a 7-0 lead.  After exchanging points with the Blues, Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) took her turn behind the service line.  Moore, behind four service aces, saw her team win 12 straight points in taking a 20-1 lead.  Hollins cruised to the third set win and took the match, 3-0.

Kendria Perkins led Bluefield State with three kills and seven digs.

Hollins will travel to Lexington, VA on Saturday to play a tri-match with ODAC power Washington and Lee and Marymount University.
