Hot Start Not Enough

Arlington, VA - Hollins University Volleyball vs Catholic University at Marymount September 22, 2012

Hollins stepped out of conference for a tri match on Saturday afternoon.  The first opponent for Hollins was Catholic University.  The match with the Cardinals was played in the gym at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.

Hollins got off to a hot start in their quest to stop a five match losing streak by taking the first set 25-22.  The second set was as close as the first but this time Hollins came out on the short end of a 25-23 outcome.  In the third set, Hollins stumbled and fell 25-8 tot eh Cardinals.  Looking to push the match to a fifth set, Hollins came out and battled in the fourth frame but it wasn't enough as Catholic picked up the non-conference win 3-1.

Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) and Ally Reed (Sterling, VA) led the Hollins offense with 14 and 13 kills respectively.  Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) led with 27 digs while Reed added 17.  Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) handed out a season high 41 assists and Amelia Eyles (Millwood, VA) led the team with three blocks.

Bridget Kulesh led Catholic with 13 kills as the Cardinals enjoyed a 53-46 advantage on the afternoon.  Fallon Foster led with 40 assists and Kristina Purcell came up with 30 of the Catholic 79 digs.

Hollins will be right back on the court when they battle host Marymount University at 5:00pm.
