Hollins Falls in ODAC Opener

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Volleyball vs Eastern Mennonite University, September 13, 2013

Box score

The Hollins volleyball team opened home and ODAC play on Friday night.  Eastern Mennonite came to town with a 1-0 conference record after downing Randolph College earlier in the week.  The match was the first regular season individual match for a Hollins team that competed in a pair of tournaments over the past two weekends.

The match started with both teams exchanging the lead over much of the first set.  With the scored tied at 20-20, the Royals gained the advantage and held on for an opening set win, 25-22.  Set two again saw both teams with early advantages.  Hollins seized control of the set at the midway point and evened the match at a set apiece with a 25-20 win.  With the momentum on their side, Hollins raced out to a 7-3 lead in the third frame.  However, the visitors didn't go quietly and after a run of their own, the Royals had tied the set at 10-10.  Hollins stopped the run momentarily but Eastern Mennonite had taking all the momentum and rolled to the third set win, 25-15.  With their backs against the wall, Hollins battled hard in the fourth set but it wasn't enough as the Royals came away with the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.
