Hollins Falls in Home Finale

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Volleyball vs Emory & Henry College, October 23, 2012

Box Score

Hollins took to their home court for the final time this season as they played host to Emory & Henry College.  The Wasps were making their second trip to the Roanoke campus after competing in the Hollins Invitational back in early September.  Hollins looked to close out the ODAC season with a victory over their visitors from the south.

Both teams started strong, trading points for much of the first set.  However, it was Emory & Henry that came out on top taking the first by the score of 25-19.  The second set saw the Wasps race out to an early lead and take the set, 25-15, behind 13 kills.  With their visitors looking for the sweep, Hollins dug in their heels and came away with a 25-16 victory to pull within a set.  Hollins looked to capitalize on their momentum but a 17 kill Wasp effort was too much to overcome and Hollins fell 25-18 in the decisive set.

Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) once again led the Hollins attack with 10 kills.  Ally Reed (Sterling, VA), playing her final home match for Hollins, added nine kills and Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) eight.  Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) handed out 27 assists and Amelia Eyles (Millwood, VA) recorded two of the three Hollins solo blocks.  Emily Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) led Hollins with 16 digs while Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) added 15.

Emory & Henry enjoyed a 50-38 kill advantage led by Jamie Cockerham (14), Nicole Tesh (13), and Kim Caudill (10).  Setter Maleah Neely dished out a match high 43 saves and libero Madison DeBord added 22 digs.

Hollins will finish their season this weekend as they travel to Maryland to compete in St. Mary's tournament.  Hollins will play a pair of matches on Friday before taking the court for the final time this fall with two matches on Saturday.
