Hollins Can't Dodge Bullets

Gettysburg College was the opponent as Hollins opened day two of the Hollins Invitational.  The Bullets dropped a pair of five set matches in day one as Hollins earned a split losing to Meredith before besting Wesleyan College of Georgia.

Hollins and Gettysburg played a tight first set until the Bullets pulled away at the very end for a 25-22 win.  Hollins started the second set by taking the lead but Gettysburg battled back and pulled a way for a comfortable 2-0 lead, 25-18.  The Bullets started the third set on a mission to finish off Hollins and raced out to an early lead.  Hollins battled but couldn't overcome 15 Gettysburg kills.  Hollins fell 17-25 in the third and final set.

Hollins got a 17 kill performance from senior Ally Reed (Sterling, VA).  Reed also added five digs, a pair of blocks and three of Hollins five service aces.  Haley Ortiz (Chesapeake, VA) also recorded double-digit kills with 10 while three other Hollins players added two apiece.  Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) lead the way with 32 assists and libero Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) dug out a team high 17 balls.

Gettysburg featured a balanced attack, five different players with five or more kills, led by Sarah Gorski with 10.  Lizzy Kuhn handed out 23 of the Bullets 38 assists and added two service aces.  Katie Wilson had 24 digs while Hannah Bentz added eight.

Hollins will look to even its record when they face Virginia Intermont at 4:00pm this afternoon.
