WildCats Can't Stop Hollins Streak

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Volleyball vs Randolph College September 13, 2011

Box Score

After a successful opening at home over the weekend, Hollins won three matches in less than 24 hours, Hollins hosted Randolph College in both teams ODAC opener on Tuesday night.  The WildCats came into the match carrying a 5-2 record.  Hollins took the lead midway through the first set and went on to 25-21 win.  Hollins struggled to start the second set and trailed 1-9 before Coach Kozak took a timeout to discuss the situation.  Out of the timeout Hollins started to gain some momentum and pulled to within 10-14 when Mandi McDade (Eustis, FL/Eustis) stepped up to serve.  Eight straight points later saw Hollins take a four point lead and go on to complete the comeback and take a 2-0 lead in the match.  Randolph came out of the break and showed signs of life by again taking a lead.  This time the visitors from Lynchburg completed what they started bringing the match to 2-1.  Hollins refused to let their ODAC opener get away and behind 13 kills won the fourth set 25-18 to take the match and pick up their first ODAC win in over seven years.

McDade had a great night recording 13 kills, three assists, 13 digs, three service aces, and four blocks.  Ally Reed (Sterling, VA/Dominion) killed 10 to go with her four service aces, 20 digs and two blocks.  Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX/Boswell) added eight kills and four blocks while Simone Mendez (Gardena, CA/St. Bernard) pitched in with four fills, two blocks, and 12 digs.  Libero Morgan Russell (Peoria, AZ/Liberty) dug 17 balls and setter Angie Moreno (Houston, TX/Elsik) handed out a team high 25 assists.

The WildCats were led at the net by Jordan Templin and her 15 kills while her teammate Grayce Darden killed 11.  Kerry McMichael had a match high 31 assists and Caitlin Glennen led the way with 19 digs.

Hollins will try to carry their momentum on the road when they head to ODAC powerhouse Washington & Lee on Friday.  They will play a tri-match with the Generals and Maryville College.
