Hollins Rebounds in a Big Way

Just hours after suffering a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Meredith College, the Hollins volleyball team took the court looking get back on track against Wesleyan College.  It was the second match of the 2012 Hollins Invitational for both teams.

Hollins wasted no time seizing control of the match.  The home team raced out to a big early lead en route to a 25-11 set one victory.  Hollins looked to continue the momentum and again built a nice lead over their visitors from Georgia.  Hollins bested Wesleyan 25-10 to take a commanding lead.  Wesleyan put up a fight but the young Hollins squad was just too much as they picked up the 3-0 win, evening their overall record to 3-3.

Haley Ortiz (Chesapeake, VA) led Hollins with seven kills, two more than senior middle Ally Reed (Sterling, VA) and her five kills.  Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) assisted on 22 of the teams 29 kills.  Moore and Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) each served four aces giving the duo half of Hollins 16 service aces. 

Wesleyan College was led by McKenzie Bragg and Jasmine Beltran with six and five kills respectively.  Gabriela Silber served four aces while Bragg and Rebecca Navarre led the team with six digs each.

Hollins will return to action tomorrow with day two of the Invitational.  Hollins will take the court against Gettysburg College at noon.
