Beginning in the fall of 2025, the Hollins Opportunity for Promise through Education (HOPE) Scholarship will be awarded alongside any applicable federal and state grants to cover the direct costs of attendance for eligible new first-year students with a family household income of $65,000 or less.*

  • Am I eligible?

    Beginning in the fall 2025, admitted first-year, first-time domestic undergraduate students whose household income is $65,000 or less will be considered for the HOPE Scholarship alongside applicable federal and state grants to attend Hollins with the direct cost of tuition, on-campus food and housing, and fees fully covered. The FAFSA (Hollins’ code: 003715) and CSS profile are required. A family income of $65,000 is an estimated ceiling for eligibility; recipients must receive the federal Pell Grant.

    Domestic, first-year first-time students applying for admission will receive automatic consideration for the HOPE Scholarship.

    Find more information about our free application for admission and deadlines here. Students interested in HOPE are strongly encouraged to consider applying Early Decision (ED). ED applicants have the greatest acceptance rate to Hollins and receive priority consideration for HOPE. The deadlines for admission for Fall 2025 are: 

    • Early Decision 1: November 1, 2024 
    • Early Action: November 1, 2024 
    • Early Decision 2: January 3, 2025 
    • Regular Decision: February 1, 2025

  • My family’s household income is more than $65,000. Can I still be considered for HOPE?

    HOPE Scholars must be eligible for the federal Pell Grant. A household income of $65,000 is an estimated ceiling to determine eligibility. If you are applying for need-based aid, you will receive consideration for HOPE. Regardless of income, students admitted to Hollins receive academic merit scholarships of at least $24,000 per year.

  • Is this program only for Roanoke-area students?

    No. Hollins launched HOPE in Fall 2021 for students living within 40 miles of campus. HOPE students are thriving at Hollins, which encouraged us to invest nationally in the program and enhance the scholarship benefits to include on-campus food and housing for residential students. 

  • I’m a current HOPE Scholar at Hollins University. Does this expansion apply to me?

    HOPE students who joined Hollins in the fall of 2022, 2023, or 2024 will continue to receive a combination of federal, state, and Hollins merit- and need-based aid to cover the cost of tuition only. 

  • Are international students eligible for HOPE?

    No. Admitted international students benefit from generous academic merit scholarships of at least $24,000 but are not eligible for HOPE. Hollins currently invests over $21 million each year in support of these scholarships, and that critical investment will continue and not be utilized to support this expansion. 

  • Are transfer students eligible for HOPE?

    No. Admitted transfer students benefit from generous academic merit scholarships of at least $24,000 and need-based aid programs, but they are not eligible for HOPE. Hollins currently invests over $21 million each year in support of these scholarships, and that critical investment will continue and not be utilized to support this expansion.
