Hollins University is one of 25 institutions around the county commemorating the 40th anniversary of Title IX and celebrating those who have made a difference in women’s athletics by entering the Title IX Trailblazer Tribute Video Contest sponsored by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA).
The video with the most views during the designated two-week viewing period (April 9-23) will win a $9,000 gift from the NACWAA Foundation Fund in support of women’s athletic programs and/or female staff professional development at the school or organization that made the entry. The two videos receiving the most views will also be shown at the 2012 NACWAA National Convention, October 7-10 in Kansas City. Representatives from the winning institution and its trailblazer will be invited to attend and be recognized at a commemoration event at the National Convention.
The Hollins video honors Lanetta Ware, who joined the Hollins physical education department in 1962 and was an example of dedication, sportsmanship, and determination to Hollins student-athletes for 43 years, coaching lacrosse, basketball, and fencing. In addition, she was an internationally rated lacrosse umpire and officiated for 28 years at the collegiate level. Ware has been inducted into the Hollins University Athletic Hall of Fame, the Virginia Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and the athletic hall of fame of her alma mater, the University of Richmond.
