Colin Wilson, 1931-2013: “Britain’s First Homegrown Existentialist Star” and One of Hollins’ First Writers-in-Residence

British novelist, critic and philosopher Colin Wilson, who served as writer-in-residence at Hollins during the 1966-67 academic year, has died. He was 82.

Wilson authored such books as The Outsider (1956), generally thought to be his best-known work; The Glass Cage (1966), which was also translated into French, Spanish, Japanese and Portuguese; and Introduction to the New Existentialism (1966), considered by Wilson to be “the pinnacle of his philosophy.”

The Guardian published this obituary for Wilson on December 9.
