Education Program (Teaching Licensure)

The Hollins Education program prepares teachers who demonstrate best practices in connecting content with evidence-based pedagogical methods to nurture the academic, social, and emotional development of each student. Our teacher education preparation (TEP) program graduates are reflective practitioners who are able to elicit meaningful and measurable data to inform their instructional decision-making. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) lists Hollins University as an approved educator preparation program. The Hollins Education Program was awarded national accreditation for a period of seven years from 2015 to 2022 by TEAC (Teacher Education Accreditation Council) in each of the following initial licensure areas:
- Elementary education (preK-6);
- Secondary education (6-12): biology, chemistry, English, history and social sciences, mathematics, and physics;
- (preK-12): French, Spanish, Latin, and Visual Arts
The program will be reviewed by the newly established accrediting body CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation) in Spring 2022.

What You'll Learn
Love Learning, Love Teaching

“True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their own.” Nikos Kazantzakis
The above quote is a perfect example of my experience with Hollins University Education Department. It combines everything we have learned to do and become into one beautiful statement. Thank you for being my bridge and encouraging me to build my own!

The education program can be quite rigorous! However, as I continue to move through the program, I feel accomplished and prepared to teach. Our program has helped me to reflect and grow as an individual, and I have truly learned how to learn. I am thankful for the many lessons and look forward to using them in my classroom!
