With Stage Work Plus Regional and National Singing Competitions as Her Foundation, Claire Cook ’21 Preps for a Theatre Career
Contending in the National Association of Teachers of Singing’s musical theatre category, Cook reached the national semifinals as a sophomore. She returned this year as a Virginia honors recipient to the NATS Mid-Atlantic Regional competition, which features vocalists from Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
“Decision Height” Revival Celebrates Ten Years of the Award-Winning Drama
Hollins Theatre is presenting a fully produced Zoom livestream presentation and first revival of the drama, April 1-3, 9-10, and 11. Written by Meredith Dayna Levy ’12, M.F.A. ’18, “Decision Height” won top playwriting honors from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival after it was originally staged in October 2012.

Anna Johnson ’21 recently earned first place awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region IV and the Southeastern Theatre Conference. Both honored her for her sound design work on Hollins Theatre’s “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.”
2021 Hollins-Mill Mountain Winter Festival of New Works Goes Virtual
The Hollins-Mill Mountain Winter Festival of New Works, which each January showcases compelling new plays by students from the Playwright’s Lab at Hollins University, is headed online this year with two fully produced plays and two thesis play readings presented via Zoom livestream.
Nationally Ranked Hollins Theatre Institute Announces Online Events for 2020-21 Season
The Hollins Theatre Institute (HTI) will be offering fans of the stage the opportunity to attend a number of special virtual productions during the 2020-21 season. This season’s schedule comes as HTI celebrates its recent ranking by The Princeton Review as the eighth-best college theatre program in the country.
Hollins Theatre Presents Natasha Trethewey’s Acclaimed “Native Guard,” March 8
Broadway and television actress January LaVoy, nationally renowned African American theatre maker Dominic Taylor, and Roanoke jazz/blues vocalist Shawn Spencer star in this evening of poetry and theatricality highlighted by stunning visuals and and live music. A conversation with Trethewey, who earned her M.A. from Hollins in 1991 and went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for “Native Guard,” will immediately follow the performance.
