Two Beautiful Options for Campus Guests

Guest housing is for the exclusive use of special university visitors including trustees and their guests, alumnae, visiting faculty, speakers, Hollins faculty and administrative job candidates, student prospects and their parents, parents of current students, visiting high school guidance counselors, consultants, and other designated visitors approved by the university. Accommodations for current or visiting students will not be provided. All reservation requests should be made through Tammy Hicks in the Office of Special Programming.

Alumnae Cottage

Completely renovated in 2010, the Alumnae Cottage features three guest rooms, each with a private bath.  Other amenities include free WiFi access throughout as well as a central living room and full kitchen that serve the entire house. Interior design by Elaine Stephenson ’83.

Barbee Guest House

Built in 1936 to house faculty, Barbee House was named for Charles Lewis Cocke’s daughter, Bessie Cocke Barbee. Barbee was completely refurbished and redecorated in 2003, thanks to Wyndham Robertson ’58 and Brooke Morrow ’78. Interior design by Elaine Stephenson ’83.

Barbee features four suites and two guest rooms, each with a private bath. Other amenities include free WiFi access throughout as well as a central living room, kitchen (no stove), and half bath that serve the entire house.

  • Two bedrooms (one with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds)

Room E (second floor): $60/night

Additional Details

  • Check in time is 2 p.m. and check out time is by 10 a.m. If you need a later check out, you must request this in advance. Late check outs may result in additional room charges. Sales tax of 5.3% will be added to all room charges.

  • Hollins University is a smoke free campus; therefore, smoking is not permitted in the guest houses.
  • Pets are also not permitted in the guest house, with the exception of service animals. Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability. Emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals are not considered service animals and are not permitted in the guest house.
