Young women who are rising high school juniors or seniors and want to experience life as a college student are invited to apply to attend Hollins University’s Knowledge for Freedom (KFF) Summer Program, which will take place on the Hollins campus July 14-27, 2024.
Designed to support underserved high school students, KFF is an immersive, two-week liberal arts program in which “young women who are curious about college life can live on campus, explore their interests, and discover new opportunities for their future,” explains Hollins Vice President for Enrollment Management Ashley Browning. “The program is completely free to participants, including housing and food expenses, and gives them an opportunity to study and build connections with students and professors who are invested in their growth.”
Sponsored by a grant from The Teagle Foundation, KFF also provides extended support for students in their college search and selection process, which includes a letter of recommendation from Hollins faculty, college search mentorship, college application guidance, and a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) submission workshop for students and their families.
Interested students may apply directly for admission to KFF, which is capped at 20 students. In addition, high school counselors, teachers, or mentors are encouraged to nominate a student for participation or consult with Hollins regarding individual student applications. The application deadline is February 1, 2024.
