How to Apply

International transfer students are an important part of our community at Hollins. Each year, women who started their college careers elsewhere transfer to Hollins. Every Hollins transfer student brings a unique educational background, life experience, and story. We hope you transfer yours to Hollins. Below are instructions to begin the process of applying to Hollins:

Start by completing the Hollins application. After submitting your application, the transfer coordinator will reach out via email to advise you on next steps.

After submitting your application for admission, you may continue to monitor the progress of your application and receipt of supporting documents by accessing your myHollins portal. A username and password will be generated once you begin your application for admission.

There is no cost to submit your application for admission to Hollins. 

Required Supporting Application Documents

Official copies of academic records from every secondary school and college or university you have attended (transcript) which must:

1. list the courses taken and grades received in each grading period during the secondary school years.
2. be sent to Hollins’ Office of Admission by the school official directly (documents may be sent to huadm@hollins.edu, the Common Application, or through a custom link provided in their email).
3. include your secondary school’s official stamp or seal.
4. college and university transcripts must be received from a Credential Evaluation Service. Hollins University recommends the following companies
   • World Education Services (WES)
   • International Education Research Foundation – Credentials Evaluation Service

A College Official’s Report form from the most recent college you attended.

One letter of recommendation

1. One letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor at your school.
2. If your native language isn’t English, you must submit a recommendation from your most recent English instructor.
3. The recommendation should state the content of your English course work and the level of proficiency you have achieved.

(TOEFL) Test of English as a Foreign Language or (IELTS) International English Language Testing System

Hollins University requires all non-native English speakers to complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or IELTS. Students can request consideration to waive this requirement by proving their English proficiency in several ways, including one of the following:

1. Obtaining a 6.5 or higher on the IELTS
2. Obtaining a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based total), 213 (computer-based total), or 80 (Internet-based total)
3. Having been enrolled and attended a school with all instruction in English for three or more years at the secondary school level
4. Obtaining a score of 610 of the SAT evidence-based reading and writing section
5. Obtaining a score of 26 or higher on the ACT English Section
6. Obtain a 105 or higher on the Duolingo English Test

Please note that satisfaction of the admission requirement for English proficiency may not equal satisfaction of the general education language requirement (LAN) as described on page 31 of the Undergraduate Catalog.

Transferring Credits

• To determine if your courses will transfer to Hollins, please submit an official college or university transcript(s) for evaluation. After the university registrar evaluates the transcript(s) and completes a Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) form, the transfer coordinator will send the TCE to the student and help answer any questions.

Virginia Community Colleges

1. Our transfer coordinator is available to work with Virginia community college students each semester to ensure that what they take at their community college will transfer to Hollins. Please contact our transfer coordinator to avoid taking any unnecessary courses and feel confident in your transfer process.
2. If you are currently pursuing an associate’s degree at one of Virginia’s community colleges, you may want to review the Community College Transfer Module.
   • This provides a list of classes you may take at your community college that will satisfy the general education requirements at Hollins.
   • Completion of this module is equal to 38 semester credits at a Virginia community college.

Hollins also has a transfer guide listing all transferrable credits from the Virginia Community College System accepted by Hollins.

Scholarship info

Academic merit scholarship	at least $23,000	Students will be evaluated based on their academic profile at the time of admission.
International friendship award	amount varies	A limited amount of additional funds are available to international students.
