Nicole Schmitt Nicole Schmitt

Nicole Schmitt is currently in her 13th year as a music educator in the Roanoke Valley. She has her own private vocal studio and serves as an adjunct faculty member at Hollins where she teaches voice. Previously, she was the choir director at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke. She also taught choir at Staunton River High School and Staunton River Middle School in Bedford County, VA, for four years. At Patrick Henry, Schmitt directed five ensembles, and served as the music director of the annual Spring Musical. She has performed in various ensembles, including the Voices of Appalachia, Roanoke Valley Choral Society, the Roanoke Symphony Chorus, and multiple University Choirs at Virginia Tech. Solo performances include community musical theatre productions, a summer in Italy singing opera with Operafestival di Roma, and multiple solo recitals and community guest appearances. Under her direction, Schmitt’s choirs continuously achieved superior ratings at district assessments and her students have represented at All-District Choir, All-Virginia Choir, Virginia Honors Choir, and the Virginia Governor’s School for Performing Arts. Her choirs performed with a variety of area college choirs, and up and down the East Coast, including in Charlotte, Asheville, Washington, D.C., Nashville, and Atlanta. She has assisted students in preparing successful college auditions and has seen her students pursue the arts at excellent universities. Schmitt currently resides in Roanoke with her husband and fellow music educator, Alex Schmitt, their daughter Aubrey, baby boy Owen, and their rescue dog, Si.
