Students starting in the fall: Placement tests in mathematics/quantitative literacy and languages are available starting April 1. Please complete your tests by June 2 so that we can make sure you are registered for the appropriate class. Placement tests are designed to assess your current level in the subject, so they require no additional studying or preparation.
Students starting in the spring: Tests are available until January 11.
Before you go begin the online placement tests:
- Make sure you’re ready to take the test(s)
- Read the information below
When you’re ready, take the test(s).
Mathematics & Quantitative Literacy
All students complete at least one quantitative literacy course before graduation. This test, required of all new students, determines which course you need to fulfill the requirement and which mathematics and statistics courses you are eligible to take.
Languages
All students must study an ancient or modern language and are required to take the language placement test for all languages studied in high school. See the academic catalog for requirements.
First-year students
- Take placement tests for any language you studied in high school. Your scores will determine the appropriate course(s) to take to fulfill your Hollins language requirement.
Transfer and Horizon students who have completed one year of university study in a language or who have completed an associate’s degree through a Virginia community college have satisfied the language requirement and do not need to take a placement test.
